Frequently Asked Questions
Answers to common questions from first-time visitors
Do I need any prior experience?
Nope! All the training you need will be provided.
Do I have to go into burning buildings?
Not unless you want to. We have a number of roles you can fulfill at the scene of a fire if you're not ready to become an interior firefighter. Driver/Pump Operators are needed to drive our fire engines to emergency scenes and critically, to pump the water necessary for us to put out fires. Exterior-only firefighters are valuable in support roles like connecting fire hydrants, raising ladders to windows, fetching tools from the trucks, or helping interior firefighters manage their air bottles, to name a few.
Can I volunteer in a capacity other than being a firefighter?
Yes! We have a number of volunteers who dedicate their time to helping us raise funds and organize great events where our community can come together.
Do I have to go to the fire academy?
Anyone who wishes to become one of our interior firefighters will be required to attend and graduate from a fire academy to the level of Firefighter 1. We can cover the cost of this class for eligible volunteers at the county training center.
